Finding connection through fitness after 40

If you’re a mum, chances are you’ve spent years running around after your family being a taxi driver, chef, money tree, crisis manager etc. Then sometimes it can feel like all of a sudden, the kids don’t need you in the same way anymore. They’re out with their mates, busy living their own lives, and you’re left with more time on your hands than you’ve had in years.

But here’s the thing…….that time doesn’t always feel “freeing”. For many women, it comes just as menopause is starting to creep in. Energy dips, sleep goes out the window, and you don’t quite feel like yourself anymore. On top of that, it can feel lonely.

We hear this a lot at Body Torque: “I’ve got time again, I don’t feel like I used to, I don’t know how to fix it, and I’m keen to meet new people.”

Why connection is just as important as strength and fitness

We all know strength training after 40 is important. It helps protect your bones, boosts metabolism, and keeps your muscles strong. But what often gets overlooked is that connection is just as vital as squats or deadlifts.

Because here’s the truth: feeling lonely, isolated, or disconnected can do just as much damage to your health as a poor diet or lack of sleep. On the flip side, building friendships and being part of something lifts your mood, keeps you accountable, and gives you that sense of belonging you might not have felt in years.

Why strength & fitness training with the right people can be life changing

Joining a gym can feel intimidating, especially if you haven’t trained ever! But the right kind of training, with the right kind of people changes everything.

When you train alongside others who get where you’re at, you don’t just work out. You laugh. You swap stories. You push each other through the hard stuff and celebrate the wins together.

It’s not just about lifting weights; it’s about lifting each other up.

Where strength and new friendships meet

Some of our members joined us thinking they were just signing up to get fitter or to lose weight. A few weeks later, they say things like:

  • “I never thought I’d make friends here, but coming to Body Torque is the highlight of my week.”
  • “I came for the training… I’ve stayed for the friendships.”

That’s what makes Body Torque different. Yes, you’ll get stronger, fitter, and healthier. But more importantly, you’ll feel like yourself again – connected, supported, and part of something real.

Are you ready to find your people?

If you’re ready to get back your energy, rebuild your confidence, and make a few new friendships in the process, we’d love to meet you.
