Yes. We specialise in training around pain or injury with an ultimate goal to correct any imbalances you may have to help alleviate you from pain. I am aged 74 and live in Epsom, at the bottom of The Drive. I joined Body Torque in mid-2025 after a friend suggested it would be a great place to both socialise and build strength.
We have a ladies’ night on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and I can also attend at other times that suit me. Having previously had a hip replacement, I was feeling good in that respect, but my full-time role is quite demanding — involving long hours, customer visits, and working on the computer. While I was cardio fit, I struggled with osteoarthritis in my back and neck and wasn’t able to lift anything heavy.
I was a little nervous at first, especially as it had been many years since I had last been to a gym. However, at my age I decided there was no time like the present.
I cannot believe how different I now feel, both mentally and physically.
After my husband passed away, I had to take on everything at home myself — the house, meals, and day-to-day responsibilities. Joining Body Torque has given me not only strength, but also a wonderful sense of connection.
I now carpool with some of the ladies, and this gym truly is amazing. There is no judgement, and no need for fancy clothing — just a supportive environment. Alex, Phil, and Pam (the trainers) are incredible. I was given a personalised programme following an assessment, tailored specifically to what I could do.
From there, I began lifting weights and using the equipment, and over the past year I have progressed to bench pressing 22kgs — something I never thought I would achieve.
The trainers have been consistently supportive, offering great care and coaching. The other members have become friends, and the gym has developed into a wonderfully social community. We have our own WhatsApp group, share playlists, and even go out for dinners together.
If you are looking to feel better physically and mentally, while also having fun and being part of a supportive community, I would highly recommend Body Torque.

I found Body Torque when I was looking for a strength training programme to help through menopause, and I’m so glad I did.
Living in Mt Eden, the Newmarket location is really convenient, and makes it easy to stay consistent with training.
Alex and the team genuinely understand the changes your body goes through at this stage of life. The coaching is excellent, the programming changes monthly, and I’ve never felt stronger.
However what makes it really special is the atmosphere. It’s friendly, supportive, and completely free of ego. It really feels more like a community rather than a gym.
I would highly recommend, especially for woman in perimenopause or menopause who want to start strength training with confidence.

Loving the vibe at Body Torque
The Body Torque Code concludes with “LIFT, LAUGH, AND LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER.” That emphasises the spirit of a gym that Joanna and I have been at for over 15 years. The improvements to our health and wellbeing have been brilliant. We have loved the support from Matt (in the early days,) Alex and Phil. Not only are they knowledgable, and are continually striving for the next level, they are fun to be with. This rubs off on everyone else, making the gym a really enjoyable place to train and improve.
From diet through flexibility, strength and aerobic training Body Torque has given us the foundations to enter retirement well. As we head off for our first big retirement trip we will miss Alex & Phil and everyone at the gym, despite their tragic sports team choices and musical tastes … Thanks guys for a fantastic experience.

Body Torque is an amazing gym, Alex and Phil are incredibly helpful, patient and supportive. There's absolutely no judgement and the members are friendly and encouraging too which makes it such a comfortable place to train. This is honestly the best gym I've ever belonged to. The equipment is excellent and I genuinely enjoy every session. What I really appreciate is that it doesn't matter whether you're super fit or just starting out like I was - everyone is welcome and supported. Alex and Phil keep an eye on everyone during sessions and will correct your technique if needed which makes you feel safe and well looked after. There's clearly a lot of thought put into the programmes and exercises and they change regularly so you're never stuck doing the same thing for long periods of time. And as a bonus the music is great too. I can't speak highly enough of Body Torque, Alex and Phil. If you're thinking about joining a gym, I definitely recommend giving Body Torque a go.

It feels like a community, not a competition. Everyone is welcoming, the trainers know their stuff and actually care about you and your progress, and the programs are structured so you don’t feel like you’re just winging it every session.
Add in social events, proper feedback, and a vibe that makes you want to show up, and yeah… I drive from Hobsonville because it’s worth it.

I came to Body Torque to build strength in my back and glutes after putting my back out from too many hours at a computer, mixed with boxing and muay thai. Not only did my back improve but I built enough strength to compete in several powerlifting events.
There's no question that Alex and Phil know what they're doing. Their knowledge and guidance gave me the confidence as a mid-late 40s female to keep lifting weights and prioritising my health for the long term.
The gym is second to none - great equipment, smart programming and plenty of support, not just from Alex and Phil but other members too who quickly become your workout buddies.
I cant recommend Body Torque enough, you just have to experience it to know.

There is nothing quite like BODY TORQUE BT gym Newmarket, special doesn’t cut it. Imagine working out and having the team on the floor around you, guiding, motivating and steering you head long into your goals, well that’s what happens here, I’m coming up 2 years and my transformation has been nothing short of a miracle, blessed to be surrounded by such an incredible team. Hidden in the back streets of Newmarket is one of the best little gyms in Auckland… Body Torque .
Alex and his team are an awesome bunch of dedicated, caring instructors who go the extra mile to cater for your needs. It doesn’t matter where you are placed fitness wise, you will be well cared for and the staff are always happy to offer help or advice. I am forever grateful to be part of this gym, they provide a warm and comfortable environment where I feel relaxed and can be myself- I have even made some lifelong friends.
