strong for life 60+

Stay strong, independent & connected

"I see it as insurance for a strong, healthy, active life. Alex understands the challenges women face as we age; for me, it's been bone density. His training works - just ask my bones!"

“They genuinely got a new lease on life. When my sister and I moved overseas and Dad retired, I quietly worried they might get bored or isolated. Instead, they found a new community, new goals and a morning routine that gets them out of bed early. They’re both happier, Mum seems more confident and they’ve made so many friends, which surprised me because they’re naturally a bit introverted."

Live life on your terms

The strength advantage

As we age, we naturally lose strength. The good news is that strength can be improved at any age, with benefits that extend far beyond the gym.

Over time, many members notice improvements in:

  • Everyday aches and pains
  • Mobility and movement
  • Balance and stability
  • Energy and wellbeing
  • Confidence and staying independent
  • Strength for everyday tasks

Phil is living proof it works. Read about Phil's remarkable story.

Phil, a 76-year-old personal training client at Body Torque Gym in Newmarket, lifting weights as part of his strength training programme.

Given six months to live Phil, defied the odds and built the strongest version of himself – one rep at a time.

More confidence. More life.

Benefits you'll feel

  • Move with confidence: Feel steadier on your feet and more confident tackling everyday activities
  • Reduce aches and pains: Keep joints healthy and move more comfortably with less stiffness and discomfort
  • More energy for life: Have the strength and energy to enjoy family, hobbies, travel and social activities
  • Stronger bones and joints: Reduce fracture risk and support long-term mobility and healthy ageing
  • Stay independent: Make everyday tasks like carrying groceries, gardening and getting up from a chair feel easier
  • Feel connected: Train alongside like-minded people and enjoy the support of a welcoming community
  • Brain Health: Help improve memory and reduce cognitive decline risk

"My clinician couldn't believe my bone density results. She thought there must have been an error because the improvement was so dramatic."

Some of our frequently asked questions

Absolutely not. Many of our members started strength training in their 60s, 70s and beyond. It's never too late to become stronger, improve your balance, increase your energy and maintain your independence. We tailor every programme to your current ability, so you start at a level appropriate to your health and your body's ability level. This will keep you safe and feeling comfortable every step of the way.

Yes. In fact, many of our members felt exactly the same before joining.

Body Torque isn't a gym full of people showing off. It's a welcoming community of everyday people who simply want to stay healthy, active and independent. You'll be guided every step of the way.

That's very common.

Our trainers are highly experienced, expertly trained and have a wealth of practical knowledge. We regularly work with members who have arthritis, joint pain, previous surgeries, back problems or other long-term conditions such as osteopenia and osteoporosis . Your programme is personalised to your body and exercises are adapted so you can build strength safely and confidently.

Not at all.

That's like saying you need to be healthy before you visit the doctor.

Whether you've been inactive for months or years, we'll meet you where you're at and help you improve at a pace that suits you.

Not unless you're ready.

Strength training doesn't have to mean lifting heavy. Many exercises begin with bodyweight, resistance bands or light weights. As your muscles, bones and joints strengthen over time, we will gradually and safely increase the level of weights you will use.

The goal is simply to increase your muscles, bones and joints ability to make everyday activities like climbing stairs, carrying groceries or getting up from the floor easier for you.

For most people, two to three strength sessions each week is enough to see significant improvements in strength, balance, mobility and confidence.

We can also help you work some gentle cardiovascular fitness training for your heart and lungs too

We'll help you find a routine that fits around your lifestyle, travel and hobbies.

Yes.

Research consistently shows that strength training helps maintain muscle, bone density, balance and mobility as we age. It can also help reduce the risk of falls, improve confidence, contribute to maintaining a healthy brain and make everyday life easier.

Many members tell us they notice improvements not just in the gym, but when gardening, travelling, playing with grandchildren or simply feeling more capable day to day.

Your first visit is relaxed and pressure-free.

We'll spend time getting to know you, your health history and your goals. We'll talk through any injuries or concerns, complete a simple assessment and explain exactly how we can help.

There's no expectation that you'll know what you're doing, that's our job.

Probably not.

Many of our members have joined after retirement because they wanted to improve their health, stay active, keep travelling, enjoy time with grandchildren or simply feel stronger for everyday life.

You'll be training alongside people with similar goals and it's likely you will make lots of new friends too.

Some of our frequently asked questions

Not at all! In fact, your 40s, 50s and beyond are the perfect time to start training. We work with people of all fitness levels and will tailor your program to your body, your goals, and any injuries or concerns you may have.

Yes. We specialise in training around pain or injury with an ultimate goal to correct any imbalances you may have to help alleviate you from pain. Our coaches are experienced in creating safe, effective programs that will help you to build strength, increase your energy levels, and get you moving better.

We often hear our customers say they join for personal reasons, but they stay for the friendships, the motivating community vibe and the high level of expertise.   Furthermore, our services also include 3D body scanning and integrated MyZone technology to help keep you motivated and track your results. It’s not about looking a certain way at Body Torque — it’s about feeling strong, confident, and supported.

Absolutely. Many of our members felt the same way when they started. We’re a welcoming, non-intimidating space. Minimal mirrors, no ego — just good people working to feel their best.

Your MyZone belt tracks your heart rate and effort in real time. You earn points based on how hard you’re working, and can see your stats on our gym leaderboard or via the app. It’s a great way to stay motivated — and a little friendly competition never hurts!

Yes — our online coaching service means you can train anywhere anytime under our guidance.

Our 3D body scanner gives you a detailed, accurate snapshot of your body’s shape, measurements, posture, and progress over time — far beyond what a scale or mirror can show. It’s a private, quick, and non-invasive way to track fat loss, muscle gain, and changes in posture or balance. It helps you stay motivated with real results you can see, not just feel.
